Packer's legacy, with particular reference to Packer’s book 'Among God’s Giants'.   https://youtu.be/CvhY3W3qk6E (14:55) "Just finished watching the first video. Fascinating. And valuable. It will be useful in the future for scholars and others to reflect on your conclusions, and follow the evidence you have laid down. For me, all you say seems irrefutable. Rock solid. I was captivated by your personal testimony, and your insights, not least into the non-appearance of the ‘Reply to Alan Clifford’. Baffling. Or maybe, as you suggest, not so baffling. The remarks of your friend regarding Packer by the fireside brought to my mind what they used to say about Cranmer taking on the colours of the last guest to stay at Lambeth Palace! There IS something very Cranmerian about Packer (not a compliment). Anyway, wonderful stuff, expertly delivered." WHY ROME IS WRONG

The death of Pope Francis will, despite some criticisms of his legacy, enhance sympathy for the false unbiblical teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. In the face of a tsunami of funerial grief, this repeated video exposes Rome's errors in the interests of authentic Christianity and the welfare of all humanity.

REASONS FOR REAL RESURRECTION REJOICING

This sermon was preached at the Old Meeting House Congregational Church, Norwich three years ago. It was my final Norwich appointment. My beloved Marian accompanied me. Little did we realize that in September of that year, Marian would suffer the first of three strokes. Soon, we began fully to appreciate the total significance of the Resurrection.

The timeless truth can be heard again. I repeat this message in memory of Marian, who entered the LORD’s immediate presence on 8 March 2024.

Rejoicing in the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, I preached on 'Who moved the stone?' from Mark's Gospel.

Unlike the video version, this audio edition concludes with the glorious hymn, 'Crown Him with many crowns'. Unless you choose to do otherwise, I pray the LORD might bless you as you listen.

IN CASE WE TOO SOON FORGET THE CENTRAL SIGNIFICANCE OF THE CROSS OF CHRIST, I OFFER SOMETHING EXTRA TO LISTEN TO, SOMETHING TO READ...

Preached five years ago at Norwich Reformed Church, this reissued sermon presents us with the sacred scene of Christ's crucifixion. Aided by a painting from his childhood (aged 10), Dr Clifford focuses our attention on the profound significance of our Saviour's sufferings. In the aftermath of the 'coronacrisis', in a disordered, violent and wicked world, never was it more urgent to grasp the heart of the everlasting Gospel.

IT IS FINISHED – THE TRIUMPH OF THE CRUCIFIED

IT IS FINISHED - THE TRIUMPH OF THE CRUCIFIED

Dr Philip Doddridge (1702-51) The Family Expositor, Vol. 2 (1740)

Jesus, having recommended his mother to the care of John, and suffered many agonies and indignities on the cross, expires; amazing prodigies attending his death, and alarming the consciences of the spectators. Mat. 27:45-54; Mark. 15:33-39; Luke 23:44-48; John 19:25-30.

And surely we, when we return from such a view of it as this, have reason to smite upon our breasts too, and to be most deeply affected with what we have heard and seen in this lively description. Let us set ourselves as with the mother of Jesus, and the beloved disciple, at the foot of the cross; and ‘see’ whether ‘there be any sorrow like unto his sorrow, wherewith the Lord afflicted him in the day of his fierce anger’ (Lam. 1:12). Well might the sun grow pale at the sight; well might the earth tremble to support it! How obdurate must the hearts of those sinners be who could make a mock of all his anguish, and sport themselves with his dying groans!

But surely the blessed angels who were now, though in an invisible crowd, surrounding the accursed tree, beheld him with other sentiments; admiring and adoring the various virtues which he expressed in every circumstance of his behavior; and which, while this ‘sun of righteousness’ was setting, gilded and adorned all the horizon. Let us likewise pay our homage to them, and observe with admiration his tenderness to his surviving parent; his meekness under all these injuries and provocations; his steady faith in God in an hour of the utmost distress; and his concern to accomplish all the purposes of his life, before he yielded to the stroke of death. (Luke 23:48; John 19:25-30; Luke 23:44, 45; Mat. 27:49.)

Yet with what amazement must the holy angels hear that cry from the Son of God, from the darling of heaven, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me!” Let not any of the children of God wonder if their heavenly Father sometimes withdraw from them the sensible and supporting manifestations of his presence, when Christ himself was thus exercised; and let them remember that faith never appears with greater glory than when, in language like this, it bursts through a thick cloud, and owns, the ‘God of Israel, and the Saviour’ even while ‘he is a God that hideth himself’

from us. (Isa. 45:15.)

May we, in our approaching combat with the king of terrors, find him enervated by the death of our dear Lord, who thus conquered even when he fell! May we thus breathe out our willing and composed spirits into our Father’s hands, with a language and faith like his, as knowing whom we have believed, and being persuaded that he is able to keep what we commit to him until that day! (2 Tim. 1:12; Mat. 27:46; Luke 23:46.)

With pleasure may we survey the awful tokens by which God owned his dying Son, and wiped away the infamy of his cross. The veil is now rent by the death of Jesus; let us be encouraged to ‘come boldly to the throne of grace,’ and to draw near to ‘the holiest of all, into which he has entered with his own blood’ (Heb. 4:16; 9:12). May God render the knowledge of the cross of Christ the blessed means of shaking the consciences of men with powerful convictions, and of raising them from the death of sin to a life of happiness! And may we be so planted together in the likeness of his death, that we may at length also be planted in the likeness of his resurrection! (Rom. 6:5; Mat. 27:5l-54.)

The Challenge & Comfort of John 13

Of vital importance for Christians today, Dr Clifford explores the profound teaching of the Lord Jesus in John 13.

Our Saviour's betrayal by Judas Iscariot should alarm us.

When Jesus said one of them would betray Him, it wasn't obvious that Judas was the traitor, judging by the disciples' question, "Lord, is it I?" (Matt. 26:22). Dr Clifford examines the implications of the challenging account in John 13.

No to the Pope, Muhammad and all multi-faith madness.

Concluding with the final section of John 13, we step into the well-known 14th Chapter. Among other matters, Dr Clifford explains the vital relevance of John 14:6 to the issues of the Protestant Reformation and the delusory challenge of Islam.

The LORD’s Compassion

THE LORD'S COMPASSION!

What amazing grace Christians are called to proclaim to the world! Focusing initially on our Saviour's parable of the prodigal son, followed by a detour to Paul's letter to the Ephesians, Dr Clifford poses a question: "Are we thrilled and amazed at the Gospel?" If not, why not? Is there not a crisis in the church that we are not more zealous in reaching out? If so, then why? An answer is given to these urgent questions. In the course of his exposition, Dr Clifford cites John Calvin as both a rebuke and an inspiration for Gospel outreach in today's world. https://youtu.be/0el0brI3MKA
