Studies in the Minor Prophets |
JONAH – GOD’S PROPHET FOR TODAY (1)A MESSAGE FOR A DISOBEDIENT PROPHET We explore the fascinating narrative of God’s call to the prophet Jonah. His disobedience, fear and failure are warnings to us all. Are we walking with the LORD or away from the LORD? JONAH – GOD’S PROPHET FOR TODAY (2)A MESSAGE OF ‘SOVEREIGN-GRACE’ SALVATION A second look at the Prophet Jonah. Stressing the integrity of the Bible's record and the relevance of this teaching for today, Pastor Alan explores Jonah's experience in the belly of the great fish - his cry, his confession and his 'come back'. His conclusion is shared by every true Christian: "Salvation is of the LORD." In the evening we revisit our Lord’s high-priestly prayer in John 17. In this second sermon, Pastor Alan explores the doctrinal and personal/pastoral implications of the sovereignty of God in our salvation, providing clarification over misunderstandings of a glorious but sometimes abused subject. JONAH – GOD’S PROPHET FOR TODAY (3)A MESSAGE FOR NATIONS IN CRISIS The tyrannical, violent, idolatrous and wicked city of Nineveh was under the wrath of God. Yet this Almighty God of mercy as well as justice delights to save. The Prophet Jonah (saved and restored to obedience) was sent to call the people to repentance. The message has powerful relevance and application for today. JONAH (4) – THE REBUKED HYPERCALVINISTA MESSAGE FOR THE CHURCH IN CRISIS In this fourth and final sermon on Jonah, Dr Clifford exposes the tragic negativity of the prophet. Suggesting a more positive hypothetical conclusion, we learn some urgent lessons for today's churches. Do we have the global vision the Gospel demands or are we content with a narrow horizon? The message presents a challenge we dare not ignore. |

No, this is not about Bartholomew’s maps, nor about Barts Hospital in London. Neither can we aim to provide a biblical character study about the Apostle Bartholomew. Indeed, nothing at all is said about him in the New Testament apart from listing him among the apostles. Yet, during the early twentieth century, his name was known outside the circles of cartographers, tourists and medics... | Download |
